Support options for struggling home owners.

Housing insecurity is an incredible weight to carry. I wanted to gather some resources to help owners who are in fear of, or are falling behind. Organizations such as the United Way, Lutheran Social Services, Salvation Army, and other local charities may be an option as well as:

Housing Support

CALL YOUR LENDER. Even if your loan was sold to another bank, they do this for a living. They also know you as a person, and what you are capable of doing when you are on your feet. There could be options of a modification or forbearance for the short term. The Attorney General’s office has a list of resources but two that are helpful are the Mortgage Fact Sheet and Facing Foreclosure. If you remember from buying a home, paperwork can take some time so I urge you to not wait until the last minute to call. Its a hard conversation to have, but you can do it!

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has housing counselors available and can be reached by calling (800)569-4287 or clicking HERE.

Another resource for homeowners is the Lake Superior Area Association’s Realtors as Neighbors Foundation. The foundation is able to provide homeowners assistance for things like payments and repairs. To apply for funds or learn more click HERE.

Utility Support

Minnesota winters are no joke. The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency provides a ton of resources including Energy Assistance. Please visit their website, there is a lot of information and opportunities to get support!

I will add resources as I find them, and as always if you have any questions, I will do my best to help!
